Thursday Jan 02, 2020
Thursday Jan 02, 2020
This week we’re driving through the city, killing some pimps and dating at the porno theater, all while watching Scorsese’s 1976 classic ‘Taxi Driver’, as demanded by a patron. Taxi Driver is a 1976 American neo-noir psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Paul Schrader, and starring Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle, Leonard Harris and Albert Brooks. Set in a decaying and morally bankrupt New York City following the Vietnam War, the film tells the story of a lonely taxi driver, who descends into insanity as he plots to assassinate both the presidential candidate (Harris) for whom the woman he is infatuated with (Shepherd) works, and the pimp (Keitel) of an underage prostitute (Foster) he befriends. Happy New Year! This week Billy and Topher are sharing their top 5 films of the year. Will they have any cross over? Will they disagree on any? Will Terminator: Dark Fate make the cut? Then as a special extra, as is tradition on the show, we list our top 5 films from 10 years ago, inspired by the idea that you need to let films sit with you for at least that long before being able to effectively rank them. This week we’re ruining the economy, yelling at our children, forcefeeding someone the moon, but still having a very merry Christmas, all while discussing the ultimate Christmas movie that isn’t at all about Christmas - ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas fantasy drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra, based on the short story and booklet The Greatest Gift, which Philip Van Doren Stern wrote in 1939 and published privately in 1943.[4] The film is one of the most beloved in American cinema, and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season. The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams to help others, and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched, and how different life in his community of Bedford Falls would be if he had never been born.
